Cognitive Hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)

Many of our problems are caused by the way we think about them, therefore, changing the way the mind thinks can change the problem. We can all do more than we think we can.

Most people associate hypnosis and NLP with cures for obsessive habits such as smoking, however, hypnosis is a mind-body treatment which can treat many types of problems such as phobias, anxiety, insomnia, migraine, lack of confidence, etc., the list is endless. NLP is very safe, and when combined with hypnotherapy, has a high success rate.

What is Cognitive Hypnotherapy?

Have you ever driven home lost in thought and not remembered the journey home, or found yourself staring into space, and found you’ve missed the last few minutes of a conversation. If so, then you have been in a trance state.

Trance is not a special state created by the hypnotist, it is a natural phenomenon. We all live in our own realities created by our past experiences, desires and needs. Cognitive Hypnotherapy is about waking up a person from the trance they are in, or, at the very least making it a pleasant place to be. When in trance you will be totally aware of what is going on, and be able to respond to questions. You will be in control.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy is not about coming up with the solutions to your problems, but about asking the questions that help you find the answer. In a nutshell, it uses the client's natural trance states (like you experience when driving) to assist in uncovering the feelings, thoughts and memory patterns that led to the problem, and which continue to maintain it. Techniques are employed to modify behaviour patterns so you are able to take control of your behaviour.

This is a interactive therapy where I act as a guide helping you to explore your unconscious mind and make changes. It does not involve me acting as a 'controlling agent' or dictating what is best for you.

Working in this way involves a higher level of skill than many traditional Hypnotherapy models, which depend mainly on using scripts to treat the problem - if you have the same problem as another person you'll get the same script. Also the content for the script will be the therapist's ideas about what you need to hear. I think this is a better way.

What is Neuro-Linguistic Programming?

NLP was created in 1975 by Richard Bandler and John Grinder, who began modelling and duplicating the "magical results" of a few top communicators and therapists. Some of the first people to be studied included Hypnotherapist Milton Erickson, Gestalt Therapist Fritz Perls and Family Therapist Virginia Satir. Since then, many others have contributed to the growth and development of the field.

Using NLP allows you to change, adopt, or eliminate behaviours, memories as you desire, and gives you the ability to choose your mental, emotional, and physical states of well-being. With NLP, you learn how to grow from every single life experience, thus increasing your ability to create a better quality of life.
